Sun Opposite North Node

Overview

Sun opposite North Node in synastry places one person's Sun 180 degrees from the other person's lunar North Node. Because the two nodes sit exactly opposite each other by definition, that same Sun is conjunct the other person's South Node at the identical degree. One contact, two names, and most synastry software prints only the first of them.

The naming quirk shapes how the aspect gets read, usually badly. Someone looking up opposition to the North Node arrives expecting growth-direction language, since the modern Western reading locates unlived potential at the north end of the axis. The geometry says close to the reverse. The Sun person is standing on the degree the Node person's chart describes as already inhabited, already competent, already spent.

The nodes aren't bodies. They're the two points where the Moon's orbit, tilted about 5.1 degrees, crosses the plane of the ecliptic: one crossing northward, called the ascending node or Rahu, one crossing southward, called the descending node or Ketu.
