Jupiter Opposite Chiron

Overview

Jupiter opposite Chiron in synastry is a 180-degree angle between one person's natal Jupiter and the other person's Chiron, and the whole contact runs on distance. A conjunction puts these two functions in the same place with no vantage on each other. An opposition sets them at the full width of the wheel, where each person gets an unobstructed view of the other and almost none of themselves.

Astronomy gives the word its literal sense. Jupiter reaches opposition when Earth passes between it and the Sun, which happens about every 399 days, and at that point the planet is nearest to us, brightest, and above the horizon from dusk until dawn. The Jupiter person's side is stranger and much less written about. They find their own good fortune being read as a fact about their character. Nothing gets said directly. It sits in the pause after they mention a piece of luck, in the way certain stories stop being repeatable, in a growing sense that their ease is on trial in a court they didn't know was sitting.

Then comes the sentence this contact is known for among the people who live inside it. Easy for you to say. It isn't a fair charge and it isn't entirely wrong, which is why both people go quiet afterwards.

The Jupiter person's learning begins with a correction to their own biography, which is the last thing they expect from this relationship.

Jupiter has been hit. On 16 July 1994 the first fragment of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 entered Jupiter's atmosphere, and over the following six days some twenty more pieces of a comet the planet had already torn apart on a close pass in 1992 went in after it. The impact scars were the darkest features in the Jovian cloud deck at the time and stayed visible through amateur telescopes for months. Jupiter is the body in this system that takes the impacts, repeatedly, because its mass pulls them in. Whether that shields the inner planets is still argued over. That it gets struck is not.

They tend to have processed them the Jupiter way, at speed, into meaning, and to have concluded from the speed that the losses were smaller than they were.
