Satyori — Pitta-Kapha Herbal Profile
Herbal Profile
Pitta-Kapha
Fire + Water / Earth + Water · Heavy, oily (shared), with heat (Pitta) and coldness (Kapha)
Pitta-Kapha types share heaviness and oiliness, with Pitta adding heat and Kapha adding stability. You need herbs that are light, drying, and cleansing — without being either too heating (aggravates Pitta) or too cooling (aggravates Kapha). Bitter and astringent herbs are your best medicine. You have strong digestion and can handle potent cleansing herbs.
Herb Selection Principles
Bitter and astringent rasas are ideal — they dry Kapha moisture and cool Pitta heat simultaneously. Avoid sweet, heavy herbs. Light, scraping herbs work well. The best herbs are the cooling bitters (clear Pitta) that also have some lightening quality (reduce Kapha).
Your Top 10 Herbs
Guduchi
Bitter, cooling, and deeply cleansing. The ideal Pitta-Kapha herb — reduces heat and heaviness simultaneously. Powerful immunomodulator.
Best form: Decoction, juice, or powder with warm water
Turmeric
Bitter and mildly warming. Anti-inflammatory for Pitta, drying for Kapha, and deeply cleansing for both. Daily use is highly beneficial.
Best form: Powder in warm water, or golden paste with black pepper
Amalaki
Cooling, light, and tridoshic. Cools Pitta excess while being light enough not to increase Kapha. Supports liver and immunity.
Best form: Powder with warm water, or as part of triphala
Brahmi
Cooling and light. Calms Pitta's mental sharpness while being light and dry enough for Kapha. Supports clear, calm cognition.
Best form: Powder with warm water or as tea
Gotu Kola
Cooling, bitter, and light. Supports Pitta-Kapha skin health, reduces inflammation, and promotes wound healing.
Best form: Juice, powder, or tea
Neem
Extremely bitter and cooling. Powerfully clears Pitta from the blood and Kapha congestion. Your constitution can handle its intensity.
Best form: Leaf powder or capsules (bitter taste is strong)
Kutki
Bitter liver cleanser. Clears both Pitta heat and Kapha congestion from the liver and GI tract. Strong but effective.
Best form: Small doses — powder with warm water
Punarnava
Reduces Kapha water retention and swelling while being mild enough for Pitta. Supports kidney function and circulation.
Best form: Decoction or powder with warm water
Triphala
The perfect cleansing formula for Pitta-Kapha. Light, scraping, and tridoshic. Supports daily elimination and prevents accumulation.
Best form: Powder in warm water before bed
Manjistha
Blood purifier that cools Pitta heat in the blood while being light enough to not increase Kapha. Supports clear skin.
Best form: Powder with warm water
Herbs to Use with Caution
These herbs may aggravate Pitta-Kapha when used regularly or in large doses.
Shatavari
Sweet, heavy, and oily — directly increases both the heaviness and oiliness shared by Pitta-Kapha types.
Ashwagandha
Heavy, oily, and warming. Increases Pitta heat and Kapha heaviness. Too building for this constitution.
Vidari Kanda
Extremely heavy and sweet. Strongly increases Kapha while its cooling quality doesn't offset the weight gain for Pitta-Kapha.
Licorice
Sweet and heavy. Increases water retention (Kapha) and can raise blood pressure. Too moistening for Pitta-Kapha types.
Best Carriers
Warm water is ideal — light and neutral. Small amounts of honey for Kapha-dominant periods. Avoid ghee, milk, and heavy carriers. Aloe vera juice for Pitta-dominant periods.
Best Times
Morning cleansing herbs are essential. Bitter herbs before meals to regulate appetite. Triphala before bed. Avoid heavy tonics at any time of day.
Seasonal Herbal Calendar
Spring
Your most important cleansing season. Full Kapha-clearing protocol: triphala, kutki, guggulu, neem. Turmeric daily. Reduce food quantity. Bitter greens in diet.
