About Dasha
Dasha is the planetary period system unique to Jyotish - a method for predicting when different life themes will manifest. The most common system, Vimshottari Dasha, assigns specific year lengths to each planet, creating a 120-year cycle that unfolds from birth.
Each planet's dasha activates the themes of that planet based on its natal placement. During Saturn dasha, Saturnian themes (discipline, limitation, maturation) dominate; during Venus dasha, Venusian themes (relationships, creativity, comfort) come forward. The condition of the ruling planet determines whether its period brings benefit or challenge.
Dashas have major periods (*mahadasha*) and sub-periods (*antardasha*, *pratyantar*, etc.) that create layers of timing. This system allows Jyotish to make specific predictions about life phases - something not possible with Western progressions or transits alone.
