About

Sama Vritti is the practice of breathing with equal-length inhalation and exhalation — a deceptively simple technique with profound implications for the nervous system and the mind. The practitioner selects a comfortable count (typically 4 to begin with) and maintains identical duration for the inhale and exhale, creating a balanced, symmetrical rhythm.

How to Practice

Sit comfortably with the spine erect, or practice lying down in Shavasana. Close the eyes and allow the breath to settle naturally for several cycles. Begin by observing the natural length of your inhalation and exhalation without changing anything — simply notice whether they are equal or whether one is longer than the other.

Sama Vritti produces a state of autonomic balance that is reflected in measurable improvements in heart rate variability — a key biomarker of nervous system health and resilience.
