About This Mantra
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha is the mantra of Green Tara, the female bodhisattva of compassionate activity in Tibetan Buddhism. While Avalokiteshvara (Om Mani Padme Hum) represents compassion in its contemplative, all-encompassing form, Tara represents compassion in action -- swift, decisive, and fearless. She is called upon in moments of immediate need: danger, fear, illness, and every form of suffering that requires not just sympathy but intervention.
How to Chant
Visualize Green Tara seated on a lotus, one leg extended (ready to spring into action), her right hand in the gesture of giving, her left holding an utpala (blue lotus). Green light radiates from her heart, surrounding and protecting you. Chant the mantra with the confidence that Tara responds instantly to sincere calls. In the Tibetan tradition, even a single recitation in a moment of genuine fear is said to invoke Tara's protection.
Pronunciation Guide
Ohm Tah-ray Too-tah-ray Too-ray Soh-hah. Each word flows into the next. 'Tare' and 'Ture' rhyme with 'array' (tah-RAY, too-RAY).
Benefits
Provides rapid protection in dangerous situations. Reduces fear and anxiety. Supports travel safety (Tara is particularly invoked for protection during journeys).
Graha Connection
Mercury (Budha) and Moon (Chandra). Tara's swift, intelligent responsiveness reflects Mercury's quality, while her compassionate, maternal protection reflects the Moon.
