About This Mantra
The Guru Gayatri invokes Brihaspati (Jupiter) in his capacity as the divine teacher -- the guru of the devas who transmits wisdom, expands understanding, and opens the doors of grace through which genuine spiritual and material prosperity flows. This mantra combines Jupiter's two essential functions: he is both the wise teacher who illuminates the path and the bestower of fortune who removes poverty of every kind -- material, intellectual, and spiritual. In Jyotish, Jupiter is the most benefic planet, and his blessings are the most comprehensive.
How to Chant
Chant with reverence and gratitude for all the teachers who have guided you -- human, divine, and circumstantial. Yellow clothing, yellow flowers, and the offering of sweets or fruits honor Jupiter. The mantra is particularly powerful when chanted after receiving teaching or before studying sacred texts. The attitude of humility (namrata) is essential -- Jupiter's grace flows most freely to those who recognize how much they do not know.
