Dhanvantri Mantra
Vedic · Healing
Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya, Dhanvantaraye Amrita Kalasha Hastaya, Sarva Amaya Vinashaya, Trailokya Nathaya, Shri Maha Vishnave Namaha
Salutations to the Divine Physician Dhanvantri, who holds the pot of immortal nectar, who destroys all disease, lord of the three worlds, the great Vishnu
About This Mantra
The Dhanvantri Mantra invokes Lord Dhanvantri, the divine physician who emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) carrying the kalasha (pot) of amrita (the nectar of immortality). Dhanvantri is considered the progenitor of Ayurveda, the one who first transmitted the science of life from the divine realm to the human world. He is Vishnu's avatar dedicated specifically to the healing of beings.
How to Chant
Sit or lie in a comfortable position. If ill, the mantra can be chanted lying down. Light a ghee lamp (associated with Dhanvantri) and, if available, place Ayurvedic herbs or medicines near the altar during chanting. Visualize Dhanvantri in his traditional form: four arms, holding the amrita kalasha, a conch, a wheel (sudarshana), and leeches (representing surgery).
