Triphala Guggulu
Triphala Guggulu · Three Fruits with Guggulu Resin
About
Triphala Guggulu is one of the most versatile and widely prescribed Guggulu formulations, combining the tridoshic balancing power of Triphala, the digestive fire of Trikatu, and the channel-clearing, anti-inflammatory resin of Guggulu into a compact, potent tablet medicine. Its primary fame rests on its effectiveness for hemorrhoids and fistula -- conditions that affect a significant proportion of the population and for which Ayurveda offers uniquely effective solutions. Guggulu (Commiphora mukul resin) is one of Ayurveda's most remarkable medicinal substances.
Indications
Hemorrhoids (both bleeding and non-bleeding). Lipid disorders. Non-healing wounds. Inflammatory conditions.
Key Ingredients
Triphala (Haritaki, Bibhitaki, Amalaki in equal parts), Trikatu (Shunthi, Maricha, Pippali in equal parts), and Shuddha Guggulu (purified resin of Commiphora mukul). The classical ratio is typically equal parts Triphala and Trikatu with an equal or double proportion of purified Guggulu. The Guggulu must be properly purified (shodhana) before use -- raw Guggulu is considered toxic and irritating to the GI tract.
Benefits
Clears ama (toxins) from the channels (srotas) throughout the body. Specifically reduces congestion and inflammation in the rectal venous plexus, addressing hemorrhoids at their root cause. Promotes healthy fat metabolism and supports weight management.
Cautions & Contraindications
Pregnancy (Guggulu has uterine stimulant properties). Severe dehydration. Active bleeding from the GI tract (unless hemorrhoids are the indicated condition and bleeding is mild). Ensure the Guggulu is properly purified -- unpurified Guggulu can cause GI irritation, skin reactions, and liver stress. Source from reputable Ayurvedic pharmacies. Monitor thyroid function with long-term use exceeding 6 months.
