About

Arogyavardhini Vati is one of the most famous and frequently prescribed medicines in the Rasa Shastra (Ayurvedic mineral medicine) tradition -- a compact tablet that encapsulates the full power of both herbal and mineral pharmacology in service of liver health. Its name, 'Arogya Vardhini' (that which enhances health), reflects the Ayurvedic understanding that a healthy liver is the foundation of overall health: when the liver functions optimally, the blood is pure, the skin is clear, digestion is strong, fat metabolism is efficient, and the body's detoxification capacity is robust. The formula's inclusion of Kajjali (purified mercuric sulfide) places it firmly in the Rasa Shastra tradition, the controversial but sophisticated branch of Ayurvedic pharmacy that employs metals and minerals as therapeutic agents.

Indications

Liver disorders including hepatitis (all types), fatty liver, hepatomegaly, cirrhosis (early stage), and elevated liver enzymes. Skin diseases including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and urticaria. Obesity and metabolic syndrome. Cardiac disorders with hepatic involvement.

Key Ingredients

Shuddha Parada (purified mercury), Shuddha Gandhaka (purified sulfur), Loha bhasma (purified iron calx), Abhraka bhasma (purified mica calx), Tamra bhasma (purified copper calx), Triphala (Haritaki, Bibhitaki, Amalaki), Shuddha Shilajit, Shuddha Guggulu, Chitraka mula (Plumbago zeylanica root), Kutaki (Picrorhiza kurroa), and Nimba patra swarasa (neem leaf juice used as the bhavana medium for grinding). The Kutaki and Nimba components are the primary hepatoprotective and bitter herbs, while the mineral bhasmas provide concentrated therapeutic action.

Benefits

The most important liver medicine in the Rasa Shastra tradition. Kutaki, the key herbal ingredient, provides hepatoprotective and hepato-regenerative effects that are well-established both classically and in modern pharmacological research. The mineral bhasmas provide catalytic support for liver detoxification enzymes.

Cautions & Contraindications

Children under 12. Severe renal failure (the mineral content may accumulate). Known mercury sensitivity or allergy. This formula contains mercury and sulfur (as Kajjali) and mineral bhasmas that require expert preparation. ONLY source from GMP-certified, established Ayurvedic pharmacies that follow classical protocols and provide batch-tested certificates of analysis for heavy metal content. The safety of properly prepared Kajjali (mercuric sulfide) is well-established in Ayurvedic pharmacology -- the compound is highly stable, insoluble, and has minimal bioavailability of elemental mercury.
